{"id":2959,"date":"2012-01-04T22:33:08","date_gmt":"2012-01-04T22:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seantamblyn.com\/lagoonreport\/?page_id=2959"},"modified":"2012-01-04T22:59:28","modified_gmt":"2012-01-04T22:59:28","slug":"islandtime","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.seantamblyn.com\/lagoonreport\/islandtime","title":{"rendered":"Island Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is<em> Island Time?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Island Time<\/em> is a long-term imaging project based on the Toronto Islands. \u00a0Employing video, sound, photography, and timelapse sequences, Island Time will showcase the Island as never seen before. \u00a0The first trailer will be online soon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seantamblyn.com\/lagoonreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/The-Longest-Night_web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2966\" title=\"The Longest Night\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seantamblyn.com\/lagoonreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/The-Longest-Night_web.jpg\" alt=\"Six hour long exposure over inner harbour, Eastern Gap, Toronto Islands\" width=\"590\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.seantamblyn.com\/lagoonreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/The-Longest-Night_web.jpg 590w, http:\/\/www.seantamblyn.com\/lagoonreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/The-Longest-Night_web-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Above: \u00a0<\/strong>Stars compete with aircraft trails in a six-hour exposure over the inner harbour, as seen from the crumbling eastern gap.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong> What are timelapses?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Timelapses are long sequences of images, usually captured with a still camera. \u00a0When the sequences are put together, they form a video that can show wondrous motion of things that we usually can&#8217;t perceive. \u00a0Some <em>Lagoon Report<\/em> examples of timelapses can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seantamblyn.com\/lagoonreport\/photos\/category\/technical\/timelapse\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you imaging?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Island Time seeks to image the environment, landscapes, and events of the Island. \u00a0Bridges, boats, flowers, ice, sunrises, sunsets, mammals, birds, moons, eclipses, bonfires, storms, and fluff are all part of the subject matter. \u00a0We haven&#8217;t figured out how to image sticky buds yet, but give us time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hey! \u00a0I found this wierd camera out in [insert location here]. \u00a0What gives?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <em>Island Time<\/em> project is employing a wide variety of image capture systems, including photography, video, and timelapse. \u00a0Sometimes, one of these cameras (most usually a timelapse camera) will be left unattended due to the long duration of capturing a given sequence. \u00a0Some potential concerns about these cameras are outlined below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1. \u00a0Are you filming people?<\/strong> \u00a0No, we&#8217;re not filming people. \u00a0Occasionally a crowd scene will be photographed, but usually people are incidental to the shot. \u00a0We try, usually, to point the camera at <em>things<\/em>, or out over the lake, harbour, or lagoon, and be obvious about it. \u00a0But it&#8217;s not always possible, and sometimes the camera must be placed across a road or boardwalk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2. \u00a0I walked in front of the camera! \u00a0Am I in the shot?<\/strong> \u00a0It <em>is<\/em> possible, but be aware of a few things:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<ul>\n<li>the camera triggers itself every 1 to 5 seconds, so chances are that you weren&#8217;t even there when it fired.<\/li>\n<li>the camera is most likely using a wideangle lens, so even if you were in the shot you&#8217;ll be small.<\/li>\n<li>the camera is often operating during twilight hours, which require long exposures. \u00a0If you&#8217;re in the shot, you&#8217;re likely a smear of light across the frame.<\/li>\n<li>since these are timelapse events, the final video will be run at 30 frames per second. \u00a0So, even if you <em>were<\/em> in a frame, you&#8217;ll only show up as a subliminal blip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>3. \u00a0I absolutely <em>don&#8217;t<\/em> want to be in any finished timelapse video.<\/strong> \u00a0No problem, we completely respect your right to privacy. \u00a0Simply <a href=\"mailto:sean.tamblyn@gmail.com\">tell us<\/a> when and where you encountered a camera, and we&#8217;ll delete your frame (if you&#8217;re even there at all). \u00a0Call Sean at 416.629.2174 or email to <a href=\"maito:sean.tamblyn@gmail.com\">sean.tamblyn@gmail.com<\/a> \u00a0with the date, time, and location.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Island Time?
