Seneca Sandbags
Sandbags line Seneca Ave as the harbour creeps towards the houses. Today waves were almost washing over the break wall, raising the spectre of damage should high winds from the west start up.
Cibola Surfing
A Parks vehicle runs the flooded section of Cibola by Snake Island. The lagoon has covered the road here for a good 200′ stretch.
Changeroom Erosion
The waves are eroding the foundations of the change room at the base of the pier on Center Island, putting the entire structure in peril.
Gibraltar Reflections
The lagoon has reached the lighthouse, and is just a few inches below the doorway.
Trout Running
A Parks vehicle runs a flooded-out section of Cibola. This is the trout pond, which has completely flooded the road and almost made it to the lake proper to the south. A couple of weeks earlier, and northern pike would have spawned in the baseball diamond.
Airport Levels
The fields surrounding the perimeter fence of the Island airport are completely underwater.
No Lifeguard On Duty
The beach at Hanlan’s Point, a shadow of its former self, now resembles a tidal pool or a thin sandbar peninsula.
Gibraltar Erosion
A trail on Gibraltar Point ends abruptly in a four foot drop directly into the lake. Erosion along this shoreline is going to be absolutely massive when winds are out of the west.
Muddy Work
Parks workers continue the muddy task of building the protective sandbag dike on Bayview Ave.
Beehive of Activity
The Island is an absolute beehive of activity, as Parks workers, heavy lifters and smaller gators move sandbags to and fro.
